Looks like MS is going to fix and add a number of things that most people are looking for in this beta release: Expression Web 2 Beta What's new: PHP support. Can now edit PHP files and even preview it in the browser without the need to have a local server installed. Photoshop Import. Can import .psd files and convert them over to one of the popular formats for web. Improve CSS which allows viewing of overflow property via design view. Better compatibility report. Can now change HTML default file name extension. Better FTP Support. ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. If it's not money, then the alternative is your time. The Kasper Group |

Anyone know where I can find a good overview for this software? The MS site requires I download Silverlight, and I simply refuse :) ---------------------------------------- Simple is better. |

Thanks for pointing this out, newseed. I have recently made the jump from FrontPage 2003 (I only use the code view) to MS Expression Web. I really like it a lot. I've had a trial of the latest Dreamweaver and found it to be just too confusing. I'm sure it was just because I wasn't used to it. Expression Web is really intuitive, imo, and I like the CSS features. I wonder....if I've just purchased the first version of the software, will I have to pay for an upgrade already? |

There is no need to download Silverlight to download the beta. However, it's pretty neat addition and you may find more sites using it. The only thing I wonder is how it will catch on with the public...mainly the web developers using it. @Susie: I have not heard anything about upgrading from the previous version of EW and what the cost is if any. I would like to think that the upgrade will be well under $100 for those that have EW already. As for FP users, I would not be surprised if the upgrade price will be higher for each new release. ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. MS has be reluctant for years to use other type of languages but now they are giving into the demand a little at a time. I wonder if MS will start using Linux codes to make their Windows better? ![]() ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. Hey Eddie, you use Expression Web, right? If so, do you know if there's a way to edit php code safely? |

Hey Eddie, you use Expression Web, right? If so, do you know if there's a way to edit php code safely? I do use EW but I don't edit PHP file with it. Until the new EW2 is release, I will just use Notepad, Wordpad or whatever editor that does not enter those BOM characters. If you got to use EW to edit PHP, what you can do is have the domain's File Manager open. When you do edit in EW and save it and then publish it, you can then go straight to the File Manager and open up the saved php file and then take out those BOM characters. Otherwise, wait until EW2 comes out (maybe by Fall?). ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend. If it's not money, then the alternative is your time. Hey, hey I use EW too. I was afraid to say anything though, fearing that I would get flamed for using and liking a Microsoft product. But I really like it. It has helped us make the jump into CSS. I love the CSS tools and can't wait to see the improvements. I'll be definitely upgrading when the time comes. |

Welcome to the club, Joe! I've used MS products all along because I picked up a copy of FrontPage a few years ago for free. Now I'm just used to it and I am really impressed with Expression Web. Again, I only use the code view, but I love the way it organizes everything.I downloaded the EW 2 Beta this morning and I see how it treats PHP now. In the first version, all php code is just black. Now in 2 Beta, it's color coded just like everything else. |
