http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-gets-better-at-flash-with-adobes-help/ I wonder if, if the future, this might be a step towards making flash content more accessible too... ---------------------------------------- John McCollum http://johnmccollum.co.uk |

Interesting. Anyone hear if they're planning on pushing this functionality to the Google Search Appliance? ---------------------------------------- Simple is better. |

I wonder if, if the future, this might be a step towards making flash content more accessible too... Or, as someone mentioned in the comments following the article, it just means that people will now use flash because Goggle can index it, just using it because it is "flashy" and interactive, and ignore accessibility entirely... Now that Google can index it, they have no significant reason to avoid using it, so Flash sites will be built that could have easily -- and more effectively -- be built using plain HTML and CSS. ---------------------------------------- Benjamin Falk | student : designer : developer Twitter: falkencreative ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by falkencreative at Jul 1, 2008 7:29:06 PM] |

Here's the article I read this morning that does a good job explaining what is going on. http://www.flashmagazine.com/news/detail/swfs_to_become_fully_searchable/ I think it will be debatable if plain old HTML is out performed by Flash for SEO and accessibility. But, I'm sure by this time next year, you'll see a surge of Flash based sites reminiscent of early 00's. The only good news is that flash designers have slightly better tastes now. ---------------------------------------- "The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings." -Okakura Kakuzo Save the developers<!> Maine Webworks |

Ack...I never thought of that. Flash is an extremely powerful programming programming environment and it should only be used to achieve something that you can't achieve with HTML, in my opinion. I am hopeful we won't see too much of a resurgence of Flash sites - so much is possible using tools like scriptaculous and jQuery that wasn't possible before. ---------------------------------------- John McCollum http://johnmccollum.co.uk |

In my opinion, Flash has matured beyond the web. Its use in our medium is as small, eye-catching bits. Its great for a button here or there, a menu bar, or a catchy header. Beyond that, it is not for web design as most of us here know it --- it truly is an application environment. People will misuse it, but be open to it --- it is far, far more powerful than HTML/CSS/JS/PHP ---------------------------------------- Simple is better. |
