Have you used the new search engine Cuil? http://www.cuil.com/ The first thing I did was to search my own usernames because Cuil uses images alongside the search which are just "associated images" and not always images from your site. One poor bloke found the "associated image" was pornographic! The link is here (don't look if you are sensitive) http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/29/cuil_launch/ Luckily with one of my usernames wickham43 they have selected my face and not an embarassing image from elsewhere in my website! ---------------------------------------- Code downloaded to my PC will be deleted in due course. WIN XP SP3; IE7, Firefox 3.0, Opera and Safari for Windows; screen resolution usually 1024x768. IE6 on W98 with 800*600. |

I read that article yesterday when I happened to see it on Digg -- I thought it was quite interesting. I'm not all that confident in the search results -- when I tried typing in a couple basic search terms the results really were not that accurate and sometimes even way off, but perhaps with some more time it's services will improve. Interesting? Yes. Does it have possibilities? Yes. But a rival to Google? At least in my opinion, no. ---------------------------------------- Benjamin Falk | student : designer : developer Twitter: falkencreative ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by falkencreative at Jul 29, 2008 11:31:22 AM] |

Yawn I'm not excited either. I did the same thing as you Ben, typed in a couple of generic words and got either no results or messed up ones. Besides somebody will buy them out anyway. I think there is just hype because some of the owners are "former Google engineers" going against their old jobs. Which, anytime you throw the world Google & competitors in the mix, you'll get a buzz. Wake me up to tell me how much they sold it for..... |

As it happens I blogged on this subject last night! Long story short: Slow Poor interface - too much ajax, poor layout of results, irrelevant thumbnails Poor search results I'm with you on this one Chris. I was hoping they would succeed, because I like their attitude to privacy, but nothing to get excited about. ---------------------------------------- John McCollum http://johnmccollum.co.uk |

Here, Here. I did appreciate their new way of displaying search results...that was very interesting. But if it doesn't catch on...well you know the rest. |

The images that are returned with the results are laughable. The image with one of my sites isn't even from the site! ---------------------------------------- Pavonis Mons | Listen of the week: "Residue of Desire" by Acumen |
