You know, it doesn't bother me so much these days when a new browser emerges, as much as it did in the past. Having said that, I would like to see all flavours of IE die a horrible death, or at least be banned from the internet -- barstewards! Opera 9.6 for the Mac Anyway, I'm not here to sing the praises of Opera's newest release, as it is early days yet, but you might be interested to know that it has a cool tool very similar to one of Firefoxes's add-ons that allow you to see whats under the hood of any web page. Like the Firefox add-on, it has two panels -- left and right. Ok, I'm being simplistic here mostly because I'm only mucking about with it. But, what I do immediately like about it is that you can click anywhere on the mark-up side (left) and it will highlight the css code on the right-hand side. Not only that, but you can also highlight web site view, or if you like, design view of the actual web page. Similarly, clicking on the web page itself will not only highlight a div, but it will also highlight its corresponding mark-up and code in both panels too. Shame you can't edit it there and then. Perhaps that's not a good idea on a live web page, but that's something I'd like it to do anyhow. Maybe there's a way to launch a favourite text-editor, like BBEdit, and be able to highlight the same area. But, then again, I've already got Dreamweaver to do all that. But it would be nice, especially when you're simply doing a bit of looking around. To be honest, my intention was never to use this browser for anything other than viewing say, other topics, like sport or other things that won't clog up my already humongous wallet of bookmarks. Anyway, like I was saying, I was just having a little look around at some NFL sites, and came across something called pits.scout.com, and I just couldn't view that page properly in either FireFox or Safari, but it worked perfectly well in Opera. How strange? Using the tools on FF I was able to see how well it coped with validation. I don't think I've ever seen so many freeping errors and warnings in all my life. That web page is absolutely horrendous! In fact, it's the pits! Anyway, why would it not break in this all singing, all dancing new Opera? I just don't know? Something wrong there? ---------------------------------------- We Brits do things differently, but we still get shot at! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by MacRankin at Oct 12, 2008 5:26:27 PM] |
