Nice to see you are testing PunBB. so what is the deal with editing? people just have short term editing of their posts? AKA spammers editing what we edited. |

"AKA spammers editing what we edited." Good point. I can turn off the post editing of new users .. say until you have 50 post? What do you think? Stefan ---------------------------------------- Stefan Mischook Video Tutorial Store | Web Templates |

Stafan, you had a "I AM ABOUT TO SHUT DOWN THIS FORUM BECAUSE WE ARE ABOUT READY TO GO LIVE ON KILLERSITES.COM" message on the test forum, so I'll post this here... Just a minor point I noticed: it appears that the new forum never asks for or displays anyone's birthdate... I suppose that could be a privacy issue, but I actually found that a bit useful on the current forum, since I could adjust my answers to the age of the person who asked the question. Just happened to notice it was gone. ---------------------------------------- Benjamin Falk | student : designer : developer Twitter: falkencreative |

I can turn off the post editing of new users .. say until you have 50 post? What do you think? Stefan I agree, but I think 50 is probably too high, 20 might be better. By the time someone has posted 20 times you should know whether he/she is a habitual spammer. Sometimes even someone who hasn't posted much needs to edit a mistake in code that they posted (provided it doesn't make nonsense of the replies in later posts; edits should always be noted in a post). I think what people find difficult is the three day limit for editing; shelfimage found thiis when he made a sticky; but it prevented him from updating the main post with the code. The three day limit should be stopped for advanced members. Edit: there's another forum I'm a member of that insists on an avatar and it must be a face so that you have some idea who you are dealing with. People not having an avatar are usually warned that no reply will be given until a face avatar is uploaded and posts will be deleted if no face is provided. This is a bit strict, but people seem to get the message. I realise that this stops the humorous avatars that people like to show and of course someone could show someone else's face, but it seems to work. It is a video forum where people would have a webcam to take a snapshot and I realise that with this forum where people only expect to ask one or two questions and may not have a face image, it's too much to expect. ---------------------------------------- Code downloaded to my PC will be deleted in due course. WIN XP SP3; IE7, Firefox 3.0, Opera and Safari for Windows; screen resolution usually 1024x768. IE6 on W98 with 800*600. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by Wickham at Dec 19, 2008 4:25:31 AM] |

Oh yes, I would like the chance to edit my posts even after 3 days. Sometimes I forget to remove urls or something and am stuck (or I PM you Stef ).I don't think we need to require face avatars. Some people don't like putting that out there (me included). |

You mean LSW's cartoon representation is not really him? *kidding* 20 posts is a good number in my opinion... ---------------------------------------- Why is it that our own site overhauls take so darn long? Both complete. Mmmmmm love my .com. Now I love my other one too. But Joe's logo design made it! What are YOUR favorite veggies? |

Just paint in some eyes and mouth and you will have face avatar!!! ![]() ---------------------------------------- Success is based on how much you spend.
