Help with NVU Please

Please can somone help.

I am trying to create and publish my first real website, but what I see on my NVU page is not what I get when I publish using CORE FTP.

My index page on NVU will now not allow me to cut, copy or paste now, and most of my content has disappeared from my index page when viewed in web browser. At one stage I had a screen message that NVU exe had encountered a prolem and needed to close, so maybe that is where things got corrupted.

I live in the country and my internet connection is not great (only 576kps) and maybe this is causing problems?

Am at my wits end having spent hours trying to create reasonable pages, and it is so disheartening when what is published is not the same.

Any advice would e greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Jon

Re: Help with NVU Please

Its hard to say without seeing the code... can you post a link to the site you are working on?

From your description, it sounds like your index page may have gotten corrupted somehow... Are you able at least to post it online? If so, you should be able to copy the online code, and then start back up again in NVU using the copied code.

Re: Help with NVU Please

Thank you for your reply. My site is

http://www.BinauralBeatsBliss.com

In NVU index.html file On my PC there is much text tables several images an embeded video links to other pages and the sales site, but as you can see on the web only the header and headlines are showing. I can do very little to amend this page in NVU-it wont let me cut, copy or paste or change text.

I have started to create another page hopefully to replace it but have lost confidence that anything is guoing to work.

Interesting that I did view my site from a different PC today and there was a little moretext and and an image showing which does not show on my PC.

At mywits end and any advice is always much appreiated.

Kind regards,

Jon

Re: Help with NVU Please

I've taken a look at your site... In Firefox, I can see all of your content. In IE, you are right -- it it cuts off after the header.

I personally haven't used NVU, though I have heard good things about it... It's hard to tell if this issue is caused by NVU generating bad code or Microsoft Word.

A couple questions: did you originally create this in Microsoft Word? Or copy/paste content from Microsoft Word into NVU? I'm seeing Microsoft Word HTML tags in your source code... Whether you are using Words "Save as HTML" feature, or copying and pasting from Word, it generates horrible HTML that is terribly coded and includes invalid markup that may cause display issues like you are seeing.

I'm not exactly sure what to tell you... I don't think it is possible to fix what you have currently -- I might be able to do it, but it would take a long time, there's a LOT of invalid code, and basically it would need an entire rewrite. I'd suggest starting fresh with NVU, and if you ever need to copy over something from Word to NVU, make sure to copy it over into a plain text editor like notepad first, to remove the automatic formatting, and then copy that into NVU. Do all of your styling inside NVU, not inside Word.

Re: Help with NVU Please

Thank you again.

Yes I did initially create much of the text content in MS Word and copied and pasted it across to NVU, and NVU warned me that it was a template. I do not know the significance of a template.

I have started to create a new page to replace the corrupt Index page and I will take on your point about plain text editor if I copy across from MS word.

If I do create a new index page can I simply delete the corrupt one and replace it with the new one?

Does it matter that this corrupt content remains in the public-html on the server or should I clear things out in some way?

Really appreciate your help and expertise,

Many thanks indeed

Jon

Yes, you should be able to delete your existing corrupted file and replace it with a new one -- just make sure the file is named the same. When you are done editing the new file, upload it to the server, replacing the old with the new.
