Hello, Is there any web regulation of file name extension usage? A site, unfortunately not public, uses dll as simple menu file extension. Now, since Opera browser version 9.6 this site isn't accessible, as Opera offers now a menu download, instead of displaying simple menu. It may be that Opera has increased security or it's just a bug or is site violating W3C regulations? (I guess the dll may be not the valid extension for this purpose) If it's a site violation, is there any links to forward there for they info? Thanks! |

DLL is a Windows library that has nothing to do with the Web. Don't install DLL files unless you really know what it is and you trust the company issuing the DLL ... it could really mess up your machine. Hello, Thanks for your reply. The question isn't of installing anything but about website using dll file extension for normal menu frame. That's it how I understand with my very basic knowledge. As the Opera has been my favourite browser for years, I must try to fix the problem. But whom to claim? Btw. it seems sometimes there are web content creators outputting dll extension too: http://users.telenet.be/ws36637/php4delphi.html |

The difference there is that the .dll they are talking about creating has very little to do with web design -- the site is talking about making a dll for a php extension. .dll file is a windows system file, not a web design file. It's not standard, so it's possible that Opera is seeing the extension and getting confused. What language is the .dll file written in? Html? Javascript? PHP? (post a link to the site if you aren't sure, and I may be able to tell. My guess is that it is javascript). If so, you should be able to change the file extension and get the same effect you are looking for. ---------------------------------------- Benjamin Falk | student : designer : developer Twitter: falkencreative |

Hello, Below is the source with urls. The site "author" struggles against changing anything, arguing that site mustn't be Opera compatible at all. But IMO if it violates standards I can kindly ask them to fix it. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd"> <HTML> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="Tue, 04 Dec 1993 21:29:02 GMT"> <title>GNT Eesti AS</title> </head> <frameset rows="149,*,40" BORDER="0" FRAMEBORDER="0" FRAMESPACING="0"> <frame src="http://elink1.gnt.ee/scripts/DBMNet.dll?Sivu?SID=285875" name="Ylaosa" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" noresize> <frame src="http://elink1.gnt.ee/scripts/DBMNet.dll?Sivu?SID=285879" name="alavalikko" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" noresize> <!--<frame src="http://elink1.gnt.ee/scripts/DBMNet.dll?Sivu?SID=285870" name="footer" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" noresize> --> <frame src="http://elink1.gnt.ee/i/tools/GNTnet_footer.asp" name="footer" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" noresize> <noframes> <body> <p>This web page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them.</p> </body> </noframes> </frameset> </html> |
