I have been having issues with not being able to view some image files after installing a security patch from Microsoft for the WMF vulnerability. I have tried all sorts from Un-registering the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer on my computer, (Shimgvw.dll) to Re-registering it. With no success. So I decided to download FastStone Image Viewer and give up on MS Picture and Fax Viewer. Wow! Should of done this months ago, only two words to say.... Try it! I can view every file type with out any problems, jpeg lossless rotate and so much more.... I feel like a person who has just stepped up to a Ferrari from a clapped out banger! I can see the benefits straight away while I'm working in Photoshop with this. Thank you so much tpattison for the recomedation, I am one happy dude. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by pixel8 at Jan 10, 2006 11:17:56 PM] |

Yep, FSViewer is fantastic! I have been using it more than Photoshop recently. It's great for just tweaking photos I've taken. Lossless crop and rotate is a good idea as it preserves the quality of the original JPEGs. I don't know if there's still a risk with viewing WMFs though. ---------------------------------------- Pavonis Mons | Listen of the week: "Residue of Desire" by Acumen |

I recently downloaded the latest release of Paint.Net - 261 Seems to be real good. The jpeg compression is excellent and as good and almost better than my Photoshop CS2. The other cool thing is that it has it's own layers support. This is good for folks that would like to play with layers and not have to invest in professional image editors. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it has much ofthe same functionality found in photoshop. Not to shabby! ---------------------------------------- "The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings." -Okakura Kakuzo Save the developers<!> Maine Webworks |

Paint.net certainly looks good, but the last time I looked, the layers couldn't be moved around as in Photoshop. Probably much better now than a year ago. When you do check it out, Shelf, please post its pros and cons. ![]() Could one of the mods sticky this thread please! ![]() ---------------------------------------- Pavonis Mons | Listen of the week: "Residue of Desire" by Acumen |

Tim, your correct. The layers can not be moved. I really thought this would be a good alternative to expensive editors with layer capabilities. But, it is not afterall.
I have to uninstall the software as it is. A very promising sign of things to come. But, only if the layer management improves. - ---------------------------------------- "The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings." -Okakura Kakuzo Save the developers<!> Maine Webworks |

@LSW on The Gimp Note on GIMP 1) It does not support GIF creation. GIF is a comercial format, you hve to buy a license. Normally you get the license when you buy the softwares it is included because PS, PSP Fireworks etc. have payed for it, so it is included in the price. This is not the case with GIMP so you have to buy it yourself and install what is needed. Do you mean that an image cannot be saved as .gif? |

Check out EditOnline at http://www.toucanmultimedia.com . It is probably the easiest to use online photo editor of them all, and has the most useful functions including crop, resize, optimize, lighten, darken, sharpen, and blur. Anyone can use it at http://www.toucanmultimedia.com/editonline/editonline.php or you can download a fully functional free version that you can install on your own website. |

hi, this is very old thread but anyway could be good for future search. I use a Media Resizer - i think there were no mention of it yet. It is free for single photos but if you want to go to batch mode then you pay. But now im making a gallery - and got a problem - need some simple media resizer for Mac because in future this gallery will be updated on it. This resizer should be very simple for people not much knowing about photoediting for the comp. I cant test any Mac editors because i havent got Mac yet .So may be somebody could give some advice? ---------------------------------------- My blog |

@Mac, Please take a break from your dl's for 5 mins and give us a review on photo editors for Mac. Need to find simple one - with the buttons: load image, settings, resize, save image. ---------------------------------------- My blog |
