a general question about navigating and posting in these forums. 1)if i have a question and i find a thread that seems to be on the level of the question or comment that i wish to get a response to but is not exactly pertaining to the subject that started the thread... should i reply to the last post; begin a new thread; or reply to a specific member's post that i believe could comment on it? i was looking for the answer or a FAQ section but couldn't find one. trying to use site efficiently as well as keeping with forum rules/traditions. thx henns20 |

Welcome to KS Not quite sue what you mean by levels... but if you find a post matching what you wish to ask you can post on it. Course dragging up threads years old is not really the best way... Judgement call. Otherwise just start a new thread, no problem there. Not much use limiting yourself to one person, just post on the forum and anyone with the answer will. Bunch of smart folks here. It is not uncommon for people to not find what they want even though it is here somewhere. It may be as the thread grew away from the original question, or the poster but a lousey title on it so it is not clear what the thread is about. So if you look and do not find it just post and ask for pointers... we just do not like it when people ask exoecting us to write the code for them, we want people who want to learn to do it themselves. Good to have you. |

Henns20 has made a very good point - We should set up an FAQ for the forum. A single place where we can place common queries and provide either a link to a thread on the subject, or just paste in the answer. Many forums provide FAQ's to be read before posting, so why not the KS forum? ---------------------------------------- Pavonis Mons | Listen of the week: "Residue of Desire" by Acumen |

Hi, I've been skimming over this message board for a few days now, and I like what I've been reading so I think I'll stick around for a bit. My name is Adam, and I am the new webmaster at the Kelly Writers House (writing.upenn.edu/wh). I am curious about the icons used to represent whether or not there has been new activity on a thread. It is hard to tell if a thread has new activity unless there is another thread to compare it to. I don't mean to open with a criticism, but it is sort of big deal, don't you think?Anyway, I'll be around, -adam |
