Well... to tell you the truth... self promotion is all about contributing...

IN fact... it's really the only reason I am here... to contribute... and to lift that 75 link restriction as soon as possible...

But if your going to go that far with the restrictions... why not add a rating system to your forums...

That way the first person to get 75+ positive votes from established members gets special privileges... otherwise you really just make it harder for spammers... you really don't increase the value of your community...

Is that why you're replying to some posts that are over 2 years old?

No... but that is how I found this forum through a search engine... I've been in hot debate with quite a few people over the divs and tables issue...

I felt it was my duty to clear up the fact that divs and tables have nothing to do with semantics or stylesheets...

There is nothing wrong with tables...

But some people do boot me from forums for posting to really old threads... and you know what I say to that? If I can't post to it... take the thread down or disable posting to that thread...

But I understand your logic... It would seem that I would be posting to the thread to boost page rank or something... but... that thread was four pages deep where I posted so page rank benefits would have been minimal... I was interested in getting through to someone who was actually reading the thread in it's entirety

In most cases... it's because I want my opinions known in areas which I believe they will get noticed... so same concept really... but my intentions are good...

My comments are not spam... they are real comments...

If I was spamming... I would have hit up all of the old threads... whether I was interested in the topic or not...

I will admit to one form of spam... I always post to the site review section... site review sections ARE spam... not because I post to them... but because every forum has a section like that... it's basically like saying hey... post your spam over here...

But no... I am not a spammer... I do not spam... I am a real human with a real interest in web design...

What really upsets me is the people who boot you from forums if your link is not in the same country as them... those guys are a real hard nut to crack... I mean... If I was on vacation in Australia and I started handing out business cards to people would they put me on a boat and export me? NO!!! It's not a crime...

Besides... none of you are my potential clients... so don't worry about me advertising my business or product here... if anything... years from now.. I hope to have established some authority for my ideas and views on web design... that's it... right now I'm still pretty young to be considered a leader in my field... but some day I hope to be...

I hope this makes sense... and I hope the time I've taken to explain myself is appreciated...

if they are used for the tabular data.

Using tables for the page layout is all wrong. To be honest i thought we were already over it - i mean to argue about tables and divs in 2008 as if it is 1998 (or may be 2000). If you know CSS fluent enough, you will never use a table for the layout.
About spamming:
this particular thread is a reminder about the nature of a killersites forums - its ( rather only) purpose is to help beginners in web design.

Re: A note to spammers: We're not that stupid

Are you telling me that Google, Msn, Yahoo, Friendster, blogger, alexa, YouTube and even Web Design Forums are making incorrect web pages?

They all use tables...

Is there a penalization placed on a website due to some sort of semantic meaning of an element inside a table?

I will show you a flash binary which indexes if you can show me website which is penalized due to use of tables...

Accessiblity is vital in web design for those with various types of disabilities. Just because Google and other major corporations uses tables does not mean it's right. Coke had cocaine in it when it was first introduced. Over time, people realized that it wasn't safe or good for you.

So just because it seems right to use tables now does not mean it is right.

Since Target has been sued for accessibility issues, don't be surprised if Google and others get a wake up call soon.

The transition from tables to css layout is going to take time and usually the old generation of web developer will either change or be taken over by the new generation of web developers that know the importance of accesibility.

Re: A note to spammers: We're not that stupid

Tables are just as accessible as divs... there is not difference when accessibility is concerned....

If I place a link within a table... I can still use my tab key to reach the link within the table... there is nothing about a table which makes it inaccessible.

As a visually impaired user, I find it far more accessible to view CSS layout sites than table based sites. CSS (when done correctly) can allow the primary contents to be read first by screen readers before any other secondary content such as links.

Now if you take your argument up with those with disabilities, you will find that the majority of them agree.

Re: A note to spammers: We're not that stupid

This forum uses tables almost completely... surely if this forum were not accessible to you, then you wouldn't be here...

Why do you choose to stay at a forum with tables instead of a forum which uses divs?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/
http://www.bupa.co.uk/asp/statements/accessibility.asp

are huge advocate of accessibility and thier website makes use of tables to.

I see no mention of the use of tables being forbidden in any of the accessibility standards... but I do see mention of linearized tables for screen readers... does your screen reader support this technology?
