The state uses .NET, so guess I have to learn that now too. Anyone know of any good beginner tutorial sites? |

Hello Kyle, Try http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickstart/aspplus/ It's pretty exhaustive and they provide plenty of examples in all the main languages (c#, vb etc). Here's a quick reference page for essential syntax - I use it all the time: http://www.harding.edu/fmccown/vbnet_csharp_comparison.html I actually really like asp.net - I just find it easier to work with than php. (Although saying that might get me shot around here, right? :) ) Good luck. ---------------------------------------- John McCollum http://johnmccollum.co.uk |

I have not dealt with NET, but had a ASP class back in 2000. Everyone hated it, but basically it was because the teacher really sucked..., he was a asp whiz... but could not teach. Add to that we did not know VB, we had learned Python which he did not know... so we never understood when we were learning VB and when it was ASP. It was a disaster and after two weeks we just ignored him till they canceled that section. |

Yikes, what a horrible experience - I'm not surprised you're less than enthusiastic about asp now! I wonder how many of us have had teachers who knew their subject inside out but couldn't teach for toffee... Asp.net really is streets ahead of classic asp, and when you get to grips with it, it is very quick to develop applications indeed. Best way to learn IMO is just to download Visual Web Developer or VB.Net Express and start playing. ---------------------------------------- John McCollum http://johnmccollum.co.uk |
