Here is one of the best references I know. Safari Books Online is an online bookstore offering everything possible for electronic books on technical issues. Right off the top, it is not cheap. I have the advantage of a Corporate License through my work. But if/when i should leave, I plan on buying a subscription. For instance, these searches: UML (Unified Modeling Language) - 963 Books .NET - 1744 Books CSS - 1278 Books Apache - 1500 Books Flash - 1000 Books These are top line books from the likes of O'Reilly, SitePoint, New Riders, Sams, Macromedia Press, Que, Adobe Press... As these are the top books, just electronically you can open any chapter of any book to find what you want, you can read them online and you receive tokens monthly that allow you to download the book in PDF format to keep. Each book can be added to a favorite list as well. Have a problem with something your programming? Just go there, look up a book you think will help you and solve the problem. If the book is helpful, make it a favorite. [Had to break off before i was finished, will add the link tomorrow as I do not have it at home] ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by LSW at Dec 6, 2007 11:24:41 AM] |

I've got an account over there myself. I don't use often enough, to be honest, but it's one of those whole 10-slot deals. I use it as a kind of fall-back service. It's probably not worth it, but when you're going round in circles trying to figure out why something isn't working, it can be really useful. Well, anyway, apart from that, I usually use it to avoid making bad purchasing decisions, you know like going to amazon, buying stuff, and realizing I've wasted my hard-earned monopoly money. It's always nice to have an extra resource you can look over, and to make an ok decision to finally purchase the book you've been thinking about. Trouble is, you're stuck with that choice of book or slot for a couple of months, I think? ---------------------------------------- We Brits do things differently, but we still get shot at! |

Not in my case, I have a library that spans two pages from SSRS to photoshop, CoralPainter, C#, UOF... you name it, all at my fingertips and can download whatever chapters from whatever books I like with tokens and can read sections to see of the book does it for me if I want to buy and then I get a discount of I do. But I got it over my employer so it may just be different as a corporate account. |
