Hi... so happy to have found this site. I put this on the wrong forum though and then saw this one. I think now I am in the right place to get some much needed help. I have been designing for about 10 years.. hate to admit this problem now. I know I should get into CSS but haven't yet. My sites I have been designing with Fireworks and Dreamweaver. It has always bugged me that when I upload them and open them... they fill in by slices and not just one page dropping in. Is it due to optimizing the slices? Should I still be using slices? Also... have buttons over a design background and when pressing on the button on the site... it shows a white default background. Can't find how to fix that problem either. I am so busy that I haven't had time to search for answers until now. Thanks for any help... -Pamela- See webistes: Powerful Recipes and Energy By Design |

Hi Pamela, Your website is riddled with tables, so if must load all of the table code first. Then it must load all the images after that. Because you have alot of images slices it it takes a while to load. (Even for me with a high speed connection). So it's not due to optimizing the slices or images. (Although later on down the line, you will always want to optimized your images) You've come to the reach place to break out of this habit. We promote CSS based designs (which means no tables expect for tabular data), using pure HTML and CSS running the background. Your pages will load alot faster, you'll use less "slices", etc. If you want to get a taste of what I'm talking about, visit WebShapes.org , download a template and look at the code, and then the CSS. |

Hi to my great "reply" person.... Thank you soooo very much for responding. I had no idea it was the tables that was the culprit. I did as you said and went to the webshapes site. I downloaded and looked at a template's source code. What an eye-opener. I just hate it that it took me this long and many other emails on forums to find out. You are the best! I went right out and purchased my first two style sheet books to get started. -Pamela- |

It's like taking the blue pill from the Matrix. We all were like that at one time. I went right out and purchased my first two style sheet books to get started. Still got the receipt? If so, don't waste your time buying books. The first thing you need to do is alot some time and read the "many" tutorials they have online regarding web standards, how to write proper code, and how HTML & CSS were meant to be together. It's not all just about style sheets. And if you are the book type, your local library probably has the same books (for free!) |
