Making an e-commerce Website Smarter.
December 5, 2012
Hi,
One of my goals in project ‘simplify’, was to not only make the KillerVideoStore simpler to use … but also smarter.
What is a smart e-commerce website?
For me, it is a combination of things that the store does:
- Let’s people interact with the store in a way that enhances the store for everyone.
- Makes it easy for people to find what they are looking for.
Creating a store ‘smart’, is much more about making it simple and useable … rather than trying to add all kinds of fancy whiz-bang technology to it. But technology is part of the equation as well.
So for example:
We now have a testimonials and rating system on a per course basis. This is nothing new or groundbreaking – Amazon has been doing this sort of thing for years and in fact, a lot of people go to Amazon JUST to read the user reviews about products!
… This should tell you how important that seemingly simple feature is!
Product reviews add value to the site because other people can see what previous buyers think … and often times, the reviews provide information about products that you don’t see in the product descriptions.
Another cool ‘smart’ store feature: Suggested Products
Any self-respecting e-commerce shop should also include a related products feature, where the store displays items that the visitor might be interested in, based on the products they are currently looking at.
Thanks,
Stefan Mischook
